This fall’s OLLI course, Portraiture, Landscape and Still Life from Ancient Times to the Present takes its inspiration from, and will make use of, the North Carolina Museum of Art exhibition, Still Life Masterpieces: A Visual Feast from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, which will open OCTOBER  21, 2012 and run through JANUARY  13,  2013.

The genres of portraiture, landscape, and still life have a special place in the history of western art. When is a tulip not just a pretty flower? How can a landscape tell a story? Can a portrait provide immortality? In this eight-week lecture series we will explore the rich and varied aspects of these genres in classroom lectures and in the galleries of the North Carolina Museum of Art.
